Uber Elevate Summit, 2018 Keynote Presentation

Work Summary

The 2018 Uber Elevate annual summit took place at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles, California. The project required a Presentation Designer to distill intricate concepts into engaging visuals and diagrams for both Keynote and Google Slides over a span of 3-4 weeks.

With the messaging already established and some visually appealing assets at hand, my task involved assembling an on-brand deck for the team’s use. Additionally, I ensured that the designs were updated as necessary to align with the project’s requirements.

Style + Color System

The foundation of the design style and direction had already been set. However, I further refined it by creating an additional style guide through a “mock presentation assessment.” Employing my method, I focused on crafting presentations rich in communication. This involved creating streamlined visual pathways, ensuring readability, and tailoring the presentation direction to suit the audience’s personas. This approach extended to a broadcast presentation, incorporating presentation cadence and timed animations that were carefully synchronized with the pace and flow of each presenter.

Keynote Visual Story

The visual approach revolved around pioneering new pathways in the airspace, symbolized by the concept of forging “below the clouds.” Drawing inspiration from their existing brand system, I devised a visual template system that was allocated to each division within the “Uber Air” department.

Collaborating with each department, I meticulously developed a cohesive visual narrative. This involved creating supportive visuals that harmonized with the brand’s standards while also carving out a distinctive event identity. These visuals effectively reinforced the key message points over the course of the two-day event.

Keynote Broadcast

An integral aspect of the two-day event involved crafting a seamlessly integrated visual presentation. This presentation spanned the main stage floor as well as online streaming, with Bloomberg conducting live broadcasting. Each presentation demanded meticulous optimization, precise cues, and visual timing that synchronized flawlessly with the distinct presentation styles of multiple presenters. The objective was to ensure a seamless flow and appearance across all presentations.

These decks contained numerous intricate visuals that were distilled into simplified forms, making them accessible to a diverse, multi-channel audience. The aim was to facilitate global comprehension and maximum information retention.

Data Visual Animation

Effectively conveying Uber’s intricate technology necessitated more than mere words – it demanded sophisticated visuals. I incorporated visual designs provided by engineers and layered them with explanatory guides, simplifying the presentation of their raw data for the audience. This approach allowed for a comprehensive understanding of each key point without overcomplicating the message.

The visual example showcased here is a Keynote creation built entirely from the ground up. It comprises multiple slides and incorporates timed presentation choreography for optimal delivery.

Guided Explanation

Upon the introduction of the Uber Air concept, a CGI commercial bumper titled “Closer than you think” was showcased. To provide an overview of the essential aspects of this ambitious endeavor, the strategy involved utilizing the created video as a foundation. This was achieved by overlaying the key service elements and value propositions of Uber Air onto the video presentation.
