Uber Elevate Summit, 2018 Keynote Presentation

Work Summary

In 2018, Uber’s Elevate Summit brought together 750+ global aviation leaders at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles, California, to showcase the future of urban air mobility. As Creative Director, I led the visual development of a high-impact broadcast presentation for Uber Air, distilling complex aviation concepts into engaging visuals and diagrams. The project required creating a cohesive, on-brand deck for both Keynote and Google Slides, ensuring alignment with Uber’s innovative and forward-thinking identity.

Style + Color System

Design Refinement and Execution:
While the foundational design style and direction were already established, I elevated the approach by developing an additional style guide through a “mock presentation assessment.” Using my methodology, I focused on creating presentations that prioritized effective communication. This involved designing streamlined visual pathways, enhancing readability, and tailoring the presentation’s direction to align with the audience’s personas.

This refined approach was applied to a broadcast presentation, where I incorporated precise presentation cadence and timed animations. These elements were meticulously synchronized with each presenter’s pace and flow, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for both live and remote audiences.

Keynote Visual Story

Visual Strategy:
The creative direction centered on the theme of pioneering new pathways in airspace, encapsulated by the concept of forging “below the clouds.” Inspired by Uber’s existing brand system, I designed a versatile visual template system tailored to each division within the Uber Air department.

Working closely with every team, I crafted a cohesive visual narrative that aligned with the brand’s standards while establishing a unique identity for the event. These visuals complemented the overarching theme and reinforced key messaging throughout the two-day event, ensuring clarity and consistency across all presentations.

Project Execution:

A critical component of the two-day event was the creation of a seamlessly integrated visual presentation, designed to span both the main stage and online streaming platforms, including live broadcasts by Bloomberg. Each presentation required meticulous optimization, precise cues, and flawless visual timing to align with the unique delivery styles of multiple presenters. The goal was to ensure a cohesive, polished experience across all platforms, maintaining a seamless flow and professional appearance.

The decks featured complex visuals that were carefully distilled into simplified, accessible formats, tailored to engage a diverse, multi-channel audience. This approach ensured global comprehension and maximized information retention, making the content both impactful and memorable.

Data Visual Animation

Creative Approach:

Effectively communicating Uber’s advanced technology required more than words—it demanded sophisticated, intuitive visuals. To achieve this, I collaborated closely with engineers to integrate their technical designs into the presentation. By layering these visuals with clear explanatory guides, I transformed complex data into digestible, engaging content. This approach ensured the audience could grasp each key point without being overwhelmed by technical details.

The example showcased here is a custom Keynote presentation, meticulously crafted from the ground up. It features a series of interconnected slides, enhanced with timed choreography to ensure seamless delivery and maximum impact.

Guided Explanation

With the launch of the Uber Air concept, a CGI commercial bumper titled “Closer Than You Think” was unveiled to introduce the ambitious vision of urban air mobility. To effectively communicate the core aspects of this groundbreaking initiative, the strategy centered on leveraging the video as a foundational asset. Key service elements and value propositions were seamlessly overlaid onto the presentation, creating a dynamic and informative visual narrative that highlighted Uber Air’s innovative approach to transforming urban transportation.
